TOP SHOP 2008; MINNEAPOLIS, MN

I have been living in California for a year now, and for a while I thought I was starting to miss the "real" weather of the midwest. Growing up in Wisconsin, I became use to harsh weather, or so i thought. Seems like I've become soft since relocating.

The day of my arrival in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the 2008 TOP SHOP contest was highlighted by pouring rain, followed up by snow. It just wasn't right. Snow at the end of April? I guess I got the weather I was asking for. The weather was pretty extreme for the entire contest. It was all good though.

As for the contest, 3rd Lair is one of the best parks that I have ever been to. I get back there with any excuse i can come up with. The staff and ramps are some of the best in the country. Shops came from all over to compete for the TOP SHOP, and there was no shortage of talent. If you aren't familiar with the contest, it's a team contest. Each shop has 5 riders. The best scores are added together to determine who is on top. In the end, the team I rode for, 4seasons skate park of Milwaukee, took 3rd. The home team, 3rd Lair skate park, took second, and the winner of the TOP SHOP contest was WARP skate park of Illinois.

Always a good time at 3rd Lair for every event. If you are in the area next year, try to make it. There is something for everyone... "real" weather, free beer, fireworks in hotel parking lots, video premiers, launch ramp challenges, and even a trade show. Hope to see even more people next year! - Dan Nepscha
